Soča Valley's Most Beautiful Waterfalls

Why does one care about waterfalls? I feel like there’s something primal about them, much like watching a fire rage or a puppy play. My instinct is attracted by the organic movement of water that our race for hundreds of thousands of years have been able to witness and take lesson from.  It’s powerful, relentless and stoic but can be harnessed for our good. It’s symbolic.

Waterfalls, glaciers, groves and gorges have shaped the Soča Valley to what it is today and it will continue to remodel. These natural construction sites are perfect destinations for short and long hikes and I don’t believe that any soul that ever lived know about all the waterfalls in the Soča Valley. I know of some of them and it’s a given, when you choose to tour with Meeting Mountains, that you and I will stand side by side, quiet, allowing let the water to flow in front of us.

Here I would like to present you with a gallery of some of my favourite waterfalls. I’ve purposely kept away the information of the location and name of some waterfalls. Contact me now to get guiding or to plan your visit to the Soča Valley in 2022. All photos in this article were taken by myself.

Please enjoy, Johannes, Founder of Meeting Mountains

Bovec Top 3

These three waterfalls have their own personality. Boka, the largest waterfall, was the subject of a blog post by our Katja Humar. Turns out there’s a lot of folk lore about the waterfall and that it’s been ice climbed!

Slap Virje, bottom picture, is a tourist magnet.

Slap Globoški (bouncing waterfall) encourages you to take a wonderful hike next to the the Uccea gorge, on the way to see it.

Parabola

Stunning and secluded, off the beaten path - this waterfall is ear deafening and gives a strong shower.

Hidden

🙈🙉🙊 Some things should remain secret, don’t you think?

Sunikov Vodni Gaj

When I first visited the Soča Valley in 2016, this place was described to me as “The high-energy-place” and that’s how it has remained in my head. A 30 minute circular tour takes you around cascading waterfalls, a former mill, moist moss and gorgeous views down Lepena Valley.

Sometimes 🤷‍♂️

These waterfalls only come out after large rains. Most often, there’s nothing there.

Johannes Bergfors

Johannes Bergfors is the founder of Meeting Mountains. In 2017 he was comfortable in a soft couch, behind a flaming pan and outside of a flying aircraft - but not sleeping in a tent. That needed to change and he moved to the Soča Valley.
