Meeting Mountains are not the only ones who are fanatic about Slovenia. Forbes listed Slovenia “Among the top 20 places to travel for 2021”. Condé Nast named Slovenia “Best Holiday Destination 2021”. Slovenia is the European Region of Gastronomy 2021 and the Soča Valley specifically was even awarded European Destination of Excellence in 2008.

Here are our top five reasons why you should visit the Soča Valley this year:

1: The Nature

Wild mountains, bursting waterfalls, deep caves, azure blue rivers, green fields and forests, colourful wild flowers. Wide biodiversity. Clean air. Mediterranean climate. Botanical gardens. National park.

2: The Cuisine

Cheese makers around every corner. Mountain hut pancakes. Soča Trout in the river. “Slovenia’s Tuscany” less than an hour away. Picnics by the river. Scenic snack breaks on your hikes. Schnapps tasting at the neighbour village. Slovenia’s cuisine is a mix between Austrian and Italian - pizza, mushroom soup, polenta, cheese, pancakes, gnocci. Fine dining and farm dining. Microbrewery for beer and micro roastery for coffee.

3: The Activities

Okey… Rafting, kayaking, ziplining, canyoning, mountain biking, skydiving, paragliding, climbing, hiking, horse riding, fly fishing, caving, SUP, yoga, truffle hunting, wine tasting, sheep shaving, cheese tasting and May spring skiing! Phew. That was all in one breath!

4: The Culture

Slovenians are great at handcrafts, carefully tend to their beautiful gardens, make their own schnapps and use the fur of the local Bovec sheep. The region has a history ranging from Roman settlements to bloody WW1 battles. Modern culture includes music festivals, the Bovec Marathon and one night club - The Black Sheep. The culture pays respect to sustainable and older methods of production and consumption. Enjoy the pleasure of drinking tea made from self picked flowers.

5: Pure Relaxation

Rest next in the shadow of a tree next to a waterfall. Enjoy a massage by our partner Bovec Massage. Enjoy the stunning sunrise from a mountain hut. Paddle down the river in sunset. Melt in a warm jacuzzi embedded in nature. Or simply lie on a green field and watch the clouds pass by.

Ok, I’m going! Where is it?

The Soča Valley, Slovenia, is located 2,5 hours north-east of Venice, Italy. It’s the east edge of the alps - specifically named the Julian Alps. The Soča Valley is the most popular June-August but incredibly beautiful also two months before and after.

Meeting Mountains create extraordinary private tours in the Soča Valley. Our speciality is to combine everything above to one single seamless flow - like hiking to a mountain, flying down with a paraglider and eating local cheese while sitting on a sheep skin next to the blue river. Find more answers about the Soča Valley in our FAQ or Create Your Own vacation and let us plan it.

We hope to see you here this summer!
